The Flight School Journey

From laid off to lift off.

I started researching flight school on March 9, 2026 — a few weeks after a layoff, with a year of savings, tired of the corporate grind, and done postponing the thing I'd wanted since I was a kid. I would have been a pilot at 21: I scored high on the ASVAB, but the Air Force turned me away over asthma I'd had at age 9 and hadn't dealt with since. So this time I decided it was now or never.

Thirty days later I passed the FAA knowledge test. Two days after that, I took my first training flight. This page is the logbook of everything since — every flight, every mistake, every tool I built along the way. If you're one flight behind me, it's written for you.

MAR 9 — Started researching
APR 6 — Passed FAA Knowledge Test
APR 8 — First training flight
[TODO: solo date] — First solo upcoming
